Description

Assistive Touch is a function on iOS devices that allows the user to control an iPhone or iPad through the screen without needing any buttons.

• It adjusts the screen control to your physical capabilities. For example, if the user has trouble making a pinching movement, he can convert this movement into a tapping movement. He can also create movements himself. Rotate and shake gestures are also available when the iPhone is in a holder on a wheelchair.

For whom and why

This function is especially interesting for students for whom certain movements are more difficult. Operating the small and smooth screen of an iPhone or the shape of the iPad can be difficult for people with limited motor skills. This can obstruct or complicate the use of these devices. Assistive Touch can also be used on devices whose functionality does work, but of which the control buttons don’t work anymore and is therefore also interesting for other students.

How does it work

• Replacement of buttons | The function replaces the home, lock and volume buttons on the outside of the iPhone / iPad with a touch button on the screen itself. This way you can keep the functionalities of your smartphone without operating buttons.
• Menu | Via the touch button a menu appears with various functions that you can set yourself, such as locking the screen, adjusting the volume, making print screens, etc.

The user can enable Assistive Touch in several ways:

• Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch. Then select Assistive Touch to turn it on.
• Use "Hey Siri" to say, “Turn on Assistive Touch."
• Go to Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut. Turn on Assistive Touch.
