Roadmap

Description

Roadmap is an online, interactive and personalized guidance tool that supports students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in higher education. The instrument was implemented in all Flemish universities and universities of applied sciences in academic year 2019-2020.

Roadmap offers a variety of functionalities:

  1. Signposts with coping strategies | Roadmap provides access to reminders, notes, and customizable signposts with coping strategies on topics related to life and learning as a higher education student.
  2. Logbook | In Roadmap you will find a handy logbook in which energy and stress levels and daily experiences can be easily recorded.
  3. Agenda | A clear planning agenda supports students in organizing and (following) their learning and student activities.
  4. Guidance | Roadmap can be used, if desired, in combination with guidance. Mentors can also register with Roadmap.
  5. Network | Students can map their own support team and can easily contact their mentor and/or support figures when and where necessary.

For whom and why

Roadmap is interesting for everyone, but is specifically developed for students with ASD.

  • Existing needs | International studies indicate that more and more students with ASD are making the transition to higher education and are facing specific needs, such as doubts about disclosure or managing the competitive social and academic requirements of higher education.
  • Guidance instrument | Roadmap responds to these specific needs of students with autism spectrum disorder in higher education.

How does it work

Roadmap is open to all students enrolled at a Flemish University or University of Applied Sciences. Roadmap has been developed for students with ASD, but is not only available to these students because of its broad employability.

  • Students | Students can create an account independently via the website. They can decide for themselves whether they want to use Roadmap independently or with guidance. They can also set which data their mentor can/can't see.
  • Escorts | Mentors can request an account from the administrator of their own HEI.
  • Get started | After signing up, students and counselors end up on their personal dashboard. The use of Roadmap speaks for itself.
  • Information | For additional information about the use of Roadmap, both students and mentors can visit the Roadmap manuals and the FAQ.

Roadmap is free to use by all students enrolled at a Flemish University or University of Applied Sciences.
